Press release from RYA Scotland announces Commonwealth Flotilla plans

More than one thousand people on 250 boats of various shapes and sizes will be delivered to Glasgow as part of the Commonwealth Flotilla, writes the Royal Yachting Association Scotland (RYA Scotland).   The Commonwealth Flotilla, which will see the largest number of boats ever assembled on the Clyde, will take place over the weekend of 25-27 July 2014.  On Friday 25July 2014 the boats will assemble at James Watt Dock, Greenock as part of the Homecoming Muster.  This will include boats which have travelled from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland to take part in this event.  In addition, over 200 young people taking part in the Small Ships Race will return to Greenock via Arran, Portavadie … Read more

All aboard for the Commonwealth Flotilla!

With just over five months to go until the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the RYA Scotland inspired Commonwealth Flotilla event is gaining momentum.   The Flotilla is open to just 250 boats which will sail from James Watt Dock in Greenock to Glasgow.  These boats, which will gather together, will sail with one mission, as the largest flotilla in the Clyde’s history.   This is the culmination of both individual journeys, and several Homecoming musters and the fleet take with them many tales of exploration and adventure.  But as they travel together, as one, it really will be an incredible sight to see.   Although only currently open to boats which can sail under power, the organisers are looking at … Read more

Happy 40th Scottish Series!

If you’ve been following the Argyll and the Apps Facebook page you won’t fail to notice the daily posts about the Scottish Series that’s dominated the timeline over the last few weeks.  This year the Clyde Cruising Club organised event celebrates its 40th birthday and we wanted to celebrate this milestone in the best way we know how, by promoting it on social media!   Scottish Series has had several guises over its lifetime, with sponsors ranging from the original Tomatin distillery, through McEwans, Stakis Hotels, Rover and Brewin Dolphin to name only a few.  And the event has evolved from being a fiercely contested regatta to being one of the most anticipated races on the yacht racing calendar.  What … Read more
