RYA Scotland are excited to announce that the after dinner speaker at the Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday 23 January 2016 will be Tony Bishop from the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation (ASSF). Bart’s Bash and the ASSF are a great example of the power sport can have and the impact it has.

Tony Bishop is the founder of Bart’s Bash, the global sailing event in aid of the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation. Having sailed with Andrew in Optimists during the 1980′s he like many wanted to do something following the events in 2013. The Bash was established in 2014 with unprecedented support, and set a Guinness World Record for the largest sailing race in 24 hours. In two years the event has seen over 45,000 sailors take to the water inspiring more than 10,000 volunteers to help to make it happen.

Tony Bishop commented:

“We are delighted to be attending the RYA Scotland Annual Awards dinner in January. We are humbled by the incredible support Bart’s Bash and the ASSF has in Scotland and we hope to continue inspiring sailors and promoting sailing in Scotland, make the sport more accessible to all”.

The Annual Awards dinner will be a fantastic evening of celebrating our sport in Scotland and hopefully the talk from Tony will get everyone fired up and ready for the season ahead. With the Rio Olympics creeping ever closer 2016 offers us a fantastic opportunity to get even more people on the water, joining clubs and signing up for training courses.
