Fools Gold wins gold at Silvers Marine Scottish Series 2015

Clyde Cruising Club, Silvers Marine, sponsors and all competitors offer their congratulations to Robert McConnell and the crew of Fools Gold on winning the Silvers Marine Scottish Series 2015.   After four days, 11 races and some of the best sailing in Scotland, the crew certainly had the luck of the Irish taking the overall title, along with winning IRC Class 2.  Race organisers awarded the coveted trophy to Fools Gold based on the best performance in the tightest class.  And that’s not all, the Waterford Harbour Sailing team received the Crawford McInnes Trophy sponsored by Hempel Paints for the best under 25 helm.  They also take home the trophy for the best IRC class boat.   While Silvers … Read more

Scottish Series 2015 – Big Sunday

Conditions out on the water today were almost perfect with a westerly wind of between 22 – 30 knots for the race round Inchmarnock.  It was an absolutely spectacular sight at the mouth of Tarbert harbour as the fleet enjoyed a spinnaker start for the run down to Inchmarnock and the return beat home.  This was a forecast that would suggest the possibility of damage to the fleet but, thankfully, it got off lightly.   Sir Arnold Clark’s Drum, which is being sailed very well by a youthful crew, seven of which are under 25, had a fantastic day today taking line honours.  Surely they must be in contention for the Crawford McInnes Trophy sponsored by Hempel Paints.   It’s … Read more

Scottish Series 2015 – Day 2 round up

After a great second day of sailing there’s still everything to play for in Silvers Marine Scottish Series.  Super Saturday lived up to its name, conditions were challenging with a light southerly blowing 10 – 12 knots, but the sun shone and it was a spectacular day showing Argyll at its best.   There were plenty of thrills and spills and in IRC Class 2 Alistair Shires of Sloop John T became the first casualty of the event, after an onboard incident.  Alistair swapped the waters of Loch Fyne for hospital but we’re delighted to say he’s fine and will be back onboard in the near future.   In IRC Class 1 Silvers Marine Scottish Series main sponsor Jamie McGarry … Read more

Scottish Series 2015 – Day 1 round up

Thanks to everyone for their patience, we had connectivity issues which delayed us getting the results for day 1 posted.   Connectivity issues were not the only challenge on day one of Silvers Marine Scottish Series, as we had to say goodbye to last year’s champion, Murray Caldwell in Red Hot Poker, who was forced to withdraw from the series after he lost his rig.  But in IRC Class 1 it was consistency which was the winner with Steven Cowie’s Zephyr ending the day on top with a 2nd, 3rdand finally a win to top the table.  He sits six points clear of Rod Stuart and William Ram’s Aurora on 12 points with Jonathan Findlay and Murray Caldwell’s Aurora in … Read more

Hempel Paints add a splash of colour to Scottish Series

Organisers of this year’s Silvers Marine Scottish Series are delighted to announce that Hempel Paints will once again sponsor the Crawford McInnes Trophy at this year’s regatta.   With just over three weeks until the 41stsailing of Scottish Series, this is great news for youth sailing, as the Crawford McInnes trophy is awarded for the best under 25 helm.  Scottish Series has always attracted young, talented sailors to the waters of Loch Fyne and this year, with numbers across the fleet up by 20 percent, this will be a hotly contested battle.  Looking through the names of previous winners of the trophy is like looking through a ‘Who’s Who’ of sailing, so it’s no surprise to learn this is the … Read more
